This one might even convert a tofu hater it's so good. It's almost vegetarian it does have some crispy bacon on it you can substitute it with some bonito flakes but this just works perfect with bacon and it's a dish I had long ago in Japan and this is my version of it.

Servings

4 servings

Ingredients

  • Package of semi firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped scallion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped crispy bacon
  • one tablespoon chopped walnuts

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup miram
  • 1/2 cup light soy sauce
  • one whole clove of garlic

Directions

Start with making the topping by combining the scallion, ginger, bacon and the walnuts and mix well and set a aside.

In a small pot combine the soy sauce, miram and the clove of garlic and heat to a low simmer.

Take your tofu and cut a slice that you can use for a portion of your desire (see my photo suggestion) and put it carefully into the sauce and heat through about 2 min and remove the garlic clove and discard.

To plate take the tofu out and put on the plate. Follow by the crunchy topping which should cover the entire top surface of the tofu. Finish by spooning the sauce around the bottom of the plate and enjoy. This one is really great with sake and works at room temp. You can substitute the bacon for bonito flakes or some smoked fish but really bacon is the way to go.

Enjoy kids!
